How large of an area does one kit cover?

One SoilKit can be used to test 10,000 square feet using a composite soil sample. If your property is larger than this, you can split it into two or more zones for analysis with seperate soil samples and seperate test kits. This ensures that the results are reliable across the entire area, in case there is any natural variation in the soil or other factors that would affect your results.

Additionally, seperate test kits should be used for areas with different managment history (e.g. fertilizer or lime applications) or different soil types, even if they are less than 10,000 square feet. This way, you can get customized recommendations specific to each part of your lawn or garden. For example, lets say the previous owner of your home fertilized the front yard but left the back alone. Or, perhaps your property slopes downward and is more boggy on the lower end. The current fertilizer needs could be quite different in these distinct areas.

Another time you would want to purchase seperate kits is if you have different goals for different parts of your yard, such as a vegetable garden needing nutrients replenished more regularly than a grass lawn. The SoilKit team recommends annual soil testing as the gold standard, but this is especially critical for vegetable gardens while being less urgent for healthy lawns with no management changes.

Finally, problem areas should be tested separately from healthy areas. This assists in troubleshooting and discovering what the problem is.
