Mehlich is the extraction method used to test soils. Adolph Mehlich was a North Carolina State soil scientist who developed the recipe for a widely used soil test extractant and thus, the extraction method was named after him. He wanted to create a method of testing soil that would work for multiple areas. Your region highly effects your soil and the nutrients within it. This, in turn, effects your crops you grow. Knowing your nutrient levels helps you know your soils needs in order to have healthy crops, whether you have a lawn, garden, or any other type of plant. He developed a total of three methods for testing soil, two of which we use at SoilKit: Mehlich I and Mehlich III.
