Necrosis, commonly associated with necrotic ring spot, is the localized death of plant tissue, usually caused by a fungus or pathogen.
Necrotic ring spot, also associated with summer patch disease, is a turf disease that affects many types of growing grasses, particularly in late spring or early autumn. It is caused by the fungus Ophiosphaerella korrae. The symptoms include small, light green patches that grow and turn reddish brown in color, appearing in streaks and circular patterns around a center of relatively healthy green grass. Necrotic ring spot is caused by root-infecting fungi and can be limited with the application of proper lawn and yard care such as fungicides.
