A type of microscopic roundworm that dwells in soil and on plant roots. Parasitic nematodes feed on plant root cells, damaging root systems so the lawn cannot properly absorb water and nutrients. Symptoms of a nematode lawn infection include irregularly sized yellow patches, weak or slow growth, and short, stunted, swollen, or knotty roots. Proper lawn and yard care can help prevent nematode infestation.
