A deficiency happens when a plant doesn’t get enough of a nutrient it needs. This can occur because the nutrient isn’t present in the soil at all or because improper soil pH ties up nutrients and makes them unavailable to the plant. Nutrient-deficient plants may turn pale, yellow, purple, or brown.
