The triple phosphate will flow well through the Scott’s spreader. It can be spread alone or in combination with the other fertilizers. At about 30% of the setting gauge, the spreader will deliver about 3 pounds per 1000 of fertilizer. If the scale is 0-15 then 4.5 will deliver about 3 pounds of fertilizer. Particle size and humidity affect flow, but this is a starting point.Use this as a starting point and adjust up or down to get the desired application amount. To know how much you are applying, measure off 1000 square feet, add a known amount of fertilizer to the hopper, spread the 1000 square ft area and measure the remaining fertilizer. If you don’t have scale, most fertilizers weigh about 2.2 pounds per quart. If the area is kept moist and clipping are returned to the lawn, or organic matter is added to a garden, and it is well watered, the recommended amounts of fertilizer should not damage earthworms.
