Pollen is the male agent released by flowers as part of the fertilization process that leads to seed production. For grasses, pollen is borne by wind, but for many plants it is carried by pollinators such as butterflies, bees, and other insects. Because grass pollens are generally half the width of a human hair, the wind scatters grass pollen widely.
