To keep your lawn healthy, it needs one inch of rain per week. If the weather is dry, we suggest watering your lawn every 5 days for an hour in each place your sprinkler covers. If it rains, your lawn could need less water or none at all.
Lawn grasses grow best when watered deeply at less frequent intervals. Shallow, frequent watering encourages shallow roots susceptible to drought and other stress. With good watering practices and water-conserving grass varieties, you can reduce consumption, save on bills and grow healthier, more resilient grass. Watering is your first line of defense against lawn diseases and can help your lawn recover from any damage.
Watering and other lawn tasks naturally vary from month to month through your seasonal lawn care calendar, but you should always accommodate what's happening in your lawn. You can always find a Water Bill Calculator similar to this one for budgeting as well. Here are some general tips for watering your lawn:

- Water in the morning hours. Why? Wet grass all night long breeds fungal diseases such as molds.
- Water 2x/week for 20-30 mins so the water can reach deeper into the soil and the roots can absorb it.
- Watch the weather -- if it is a rainy week, pull back on your twice-weekly routine or sprinkler schedule.
- Look for brown spots: Adjust sprinklers for good coverage and make sure they are operating correctly.
