There is no single ideal soil pH because different plants prefer slightly more acidic or more alkaline soils than each other. As a rule of thumb, neutral or slightly acid soils are best (pH 6.0-6.5) because this facilitates the availability of essential nutrients and avoids toxicity. There are exceptions, for example, blueberries (prefered pH 4.0-5.0). SoilKit always tests for pH, because excessive acidity or alkalinity can prevent plant roots from accessing nutrients, even if they are present in the soil.
